Oliva
Oliva is a charming corner of the La Safor region, in the province of Valencia, with plenty to see. We’ve put together a short guide to help you make the most of your next getaway – you’ll be spoilt for choice with cultural attractions, outdoor activities in the Marjal de Pego y Oliva Natural Park, a fantastic golf course and beaches where you can lose yourself!
Things to do in Oliva
To start with, we suggest you explore Oliva’s historical heritage by following a route through the Vila Condal that ends at the remains of the towers and city walls, now integrated into the town’s streetscape. Another option is to stroll through the old Moorish Quarter and fall in love with the narrow streets, such as Carrer de la Hoz, and make your way to the Tosalet del Doix viewpoint. Or choose the route that takes you to explore the Gerreria and Pinet areas!
In Oliva, you’ll find churches of all kinds, from the Parish Church of San Roque, with its magnificent Baroque chapel, to the Parish Church of the Assumption of Our Lady, which has a crypt that has been converted into an exhibition space.
Be sure to include the 18th-century Hermitage of San Vicente Ferrer on your list, situated in a spot where the saint is said to have preached, and the building known as L’Enginy, a former sugar mill that is a true symbol of the town of Oliva. Don’t miss the fantastic Museu Arqueológic d’Oliva, its archaeological museum, or the wonderful Font Salada, where the water stays at a constant temperature all year round!
If we leave the town centre of Oliva, we can pop over to admire the simple and charming Hermitage of Saints Anthony and Saint Peter the Apostle. Of course, we’ve saved the best for last: Santa Ana Castle, from where you can enjoy spectacular views.
For nature lovers, there’s plenty to do in Oliva, such as visiting the Marjal de Pego y Oliva Natural Park and admiring the landscapes created by the springs or ‘ullals’ of clear water, teeming with wildlife, especially birds. Perfect for a spot of birdwatching!
Finally, we head to the beach: Terranova-Burguera, Pau-Pi, Aigua Blanca, Rabdells, Aigua Morta, Les Deveses… Oliva is a brilliant place to fall in love with the Mediterranean!
