Dénia

The sea breeze on your skin, the taste of one of the finest cuisines, the history that surrounds Dénia… Wherever you look, this beautiful corner of the Costa Blanca will surprise you.

Dénia is one of those destinations that shines with its own light. Its 20 kilometres of coastline hide fine sandy beaches and rocky coves that hold great treasures. And if you look up, Montgó rises up, watching over the coastline. What’s more, this part of the Costa Blanca has a great historical, cultural and gastronomic heritage. Explore Dénia and put your five senses to the test.

What to see in Dénia

Exploring Dénia through its streets is an adventure, a journey through time and a return to its origins. Just head to the Baix la Mar neighbourhood to step back into its seafaring past and admire its picturesque houses.

Another neighbourhood you shouldn’t miss is Les Roques. Here you can discover part of its heritage. Les Roques was part of the walled Raval district, an area of the Arab city with its bathhouses, mills, ovens… It is also the gateway to Dénia’s castle and walls.

This fortress, a symbol of the town, dates back to Islamic times. It is located on a gentle hill facing the sea and in the heart of the city. If you visit the highest part, you can enjoy magnificent views of the Mediterranean. Today, the castle is part of an important heritage site that includes the Museu Arqueològic de la Ciutat de Dénia, the Archaeological Museum of the City of Dénia.

Continuing our stroll through the historic centre, we invite you to visit the Convent of Las Agustinas and the Parish Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, a temple that exudes great beauty, both inside and out.
If you want to continue enjoying the history and culture that surround Dénia, there is a stop that both adults and children will enjoy.

Welcome to the Toy Museum! Once you walk through its doors, you can travel back in time and discover authentic treasures and the importance of the early toy industry. Wooden kitchens, bowling sets, ring games… You’ll find everything you can imagine here!

Dénia is a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, which encourages us to savour every corner of it. In Dénia, the best products from the sea and the Valencian countryside come together to create dishes of the highest quality. Arroz a banda, espencat, dried octopus, red prawns and suquet de peix are just a few examples of the great variety and richness of Dénia’s cuisine.

Finally, we arrive at the beaches. Explore them, dive, swim and enjoy the fine sand, rocky shores and seabed hidden in some of the most iconic coves. Els Molins, La Cala, Les Deveses and Les Marines beaches will become your best friends if you visit this destination. Here you can find great marine treasures, especially in the Fondos del Cabo de San Antonio Marine Nature Reserve. Organise an activity to make the most of the underwater views.

If you love nature in all its forms and want to enjoy pleasant hiking trails, don’t miss the Dénia Greenway or the summit of the Montgó Natural Park.

Montgó Natural Park is one of Dénia’s greatest scenic and ecological treasures. This imposing mountain, which rises to a height of 753 metres above sea level, acts as a natural viewpoint for observing the Marina Alta and the coast, offering spectacular panoramic views and exceptional biodiversity. Declared a natural park in 1987, Montgó is home to more than 650 species of flora and a rich fauna, and is a habitat for protected species that find refuge here. It has also been declared a Special Protection Area for Birds (SPA), as well as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) and a Site of Community Interest (SCI). Its marked trails allow visitors to explore an environment of great environmental and cultural value, where archaeological remains, ancient terraced crops, viewpoints overlooking the Mediterranean and places of great beauty coexist. From gentle routes for the whole family to more demanding climbs for experienced hikers, Montgó invites you to discover, breathe and reconnect with nature. A protected area to be enjoyed responsibly, at any time of year.
